"a word or a combination of words by which a person, place,or thing, a body or class, or any object of thought is designated, called, or known."
That definition means THE WORLD to me. My name is the title I carry with me throughout my experience on this planet. It is the first thing I have to offer someone as a representation of what I've have made myself to be. A name is the culmination of all my previous experiences & my continuing voyage...every innocent remark, every guilty indulgence, every naive choice, my humility, my pride, past, present, and future.
Sounds deep huh?...LOL! Well, welcome to my world! I'm the silliest guy you've ever met (which you'll see on here) but I really enjoy thinking & creating as I consider it my responsibility to perpetually expand in whatever direction makes sense to me.
I was born Michael Anthony Anderson. "Michael" came from my Uncle Mike who was (and continues to be) a very big influence on my life. "Anthony" I think came from St. Anthony? I'm not sure but I'm far from Catholic so that doesn't pertain to me. "Anderson" came from my mothers first husband whom I've never met and have no relation to whatsoever...
So with that being said my legal name now is "Porter Michael Lori". Porter is my fathers middle name and the one that his friends and family call him. I kept "Michael" out of my respect to my Uncle because honoring him is very important to me, and "Lori" is my mothers name (spelled differently) that if & when I ever choose to be married and have children will be passed down.
In my teens and 20's in Denver I was hugely involved in the graffiti/Hip-Hop scene. My graffiti name was "TEK" & my musical name was "Teknowledge". For me, I always wanted to represent the fine line between Beast & Intellectual, Thief & Good Samaritan. After moving to Los Angeles I was (& am still am by many) known as "Tek". The name just stuck and I was ok with that because I was still walking that fine line.
As I've grown into the man & artist that I am today I've come to realize that I not only STILL represent that point of view but embrase it now more than ever! My name now represents the freedom to create the best of what I am as a man and the responsibility to destroy those things that stand in my way internally & externally that would undermine that freedom.
See... now isn't that silly!!??
